3 Keys to Becoming the Best Version of Yourself

It has been said and truthfully said, “You only live once, but if you live right, once is enough.” What does it mean to live right, though? As a person of faith, it would be easy to default to holiness (our buzzword for morality and ethics). And while that may not be incorrect, it’s incomplete. When I say “living right,” I mean becoming the best version of yourself.

As a spiritual leader and transformational coach, I’ve seen people with high morals and ethics unable to self-optimize. Now, please read me correctly. I’m not minimizing the importance of character, but I am saying that you can have good character and still not be the best version of yourself. I know that’s a bold claim, but hear me out. If you’re going to become the best version of yourself, you need more than good character.

Let me offer three keys to becoming the best version of yourself.

1. Growing Your Faith

Now I realize that not everyone in my audience is a person of faith, but my faith impacts my worldview, so indulge me. When you get better spiritually, everything gets better. Some argue that you can get life right without faith, but I believe that getting faith right helps you find life. There is no better person to help you self-optimize than the One who created you. He knows how to get the best out of you.

2. Pursuing Your Purpose

Purpose is the reason for the creation or existence of a thing. Just because you exist doesn’t mean you know why you exist. You will never be the best version of yourself, absent of purpose. Once you discover your purpose, it should set you on a course to become the kind of person you need to become to accomplish it. Purpose gives you a reason to self-optimize.

3. Changing Your World

We often hear people talk about changing the world, but you have to change your world before you can change the world. By this, I mean improving your quality of life. Hopefully, if the COVID-19 pandemic has shown us nothing else, it has shown us how important quality of life is. So, how do you change your world? One day at a time, one decision at a time.

Live Your Best Life & Do Your Best Work

In this work-driven culture, becoming your best self may seem like an exercise in futility, but your ability to do your best work is contingent upon becoming your best self. Your journey to the best version of you begins now. It will be a messy process, but there is no greater reward than looking in the mirror and loving the person looking back at you. Not because you’re perfect but because you’ve done the hard work of change. Put these keys to work, and keep me posted on your progress.

I’m rooting for you!
